The AB Järnbruksförnödenheter company, known as JBF for short, was founded in 1917.
The original company documents describe how most of the steel-manufacturing companies of the period, relatively many compared to today, decided to establish a mutual company through which they would be able to cooperate in the purchase of commodities and other materials.
One of the main purposes of the new company was to achieve a better level of organization in the scrap market, which was rather chaotic at the time.
From 1937 until 1993, recycling industry was not permitted to export steel scrap from Sweden. However, when Sweden joined the EU in 1994, this restriction was removed.
Since then, and in particular after the financial crisis of 2008-2009, the scrap metal market has become almost totally globalized.
During the years JBF has been active in a number of product markets, but our primary market has always been steel scrap.
